A social morality tale about the American Dream inflated to ridiculous excess and three special screenings join the schedule beginning this Friday, August 24.
THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES is a jaw-dopping, riveting documentary about a billionaire family and their financial challenges in the wake of the economic crisis. With epic proportions of Shakespearean tragedy, this Sundance award-winner follows two unique characters, whose rags-to-riches success stories reveal the innate virtues and flaws of the American Dream. The film begins with the family triumphantly constructing the biggest house in America, a 90,000 sq. ft. palace. Over the next two years, their sprawling empire, fueled by the real estate bubble and cheap money, falters due to the economic crisis. Major changes in lifestyle and character ensue within the cross-cultural household of family members and domestic staff. Witness the impact of this turn of fortune fraught with delusion, denial, and self-effacing humor.....you’ll be telling your friends they have to see this one for themselves.
Special screenings this coming week include:
- The Paris Opera Ballet performing LA SOURCE, the wonderfully poetic dance tale of elves, nymphs and ethereal beings in two matinee broadcast.
- The KC Gay Film Festival offers a laugh-out loud encore screening of GAYBY, the comedy that won the Audience Award at the 2012 festival.
- And, the exclusive Kansas City broadcast of FATBOY SLIM LIVE, featuring one of the world's greatest electronic dance music musicians, who recently wowed a global audience at the 2012 Olympics.
We continue with the brilliant, visual masterpiece, BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD, which took top prizes at both Sundance and Cannes as well as AI WEIWEI: NEVER SORRY, the award-winning, story about China’s most famous international artist, (and its most outspoken domestic critic.) Plus, in its ninth hit week, MOONRISE KINGDOM, is held over for weekend only showings.
Until next week, thanks, as always, for your support,
